New LTC/FID Application Portal

As we are sure many are aware, there is a new online portal to apply for an LTC or FID in the Commonwealth.

We at Comm2A are encouraging individuals located in cities and towns known for lengthy delays to apply or renew their LTC or FID through the newly established online application portal.  This includes out of state folks looking to apply for a non-resident permit.

The process to register for the portal takes a few minutes and will require that you provide details on your current FID/LTC if you have one, or other state issued credentials if you do not.  There will be an initial password email sent out as well as a validation code.  Wait until you have both emails before proceeding to establish your own password.  The initial password and validation code are both long and contain a mix of number and lower/upper case letters, so you may find it easier to register from a computer as opposed to a mobile phone or tablet.

Per Statue, the licensing authority shall, within 7 days of the receipt of a completed application, forward fingerprints of the applicant to the Colonel of the State Police for background check purposes and shall approve or deny the license within 40 days.

Based on some feedback we have received from folks who have done this already, the application gets flagged as “Pending” as soon as you submit it. You will still need to go in person to pay the $100 fee and have fingerprints taken, however, the FRB and MIRCS considers the date you press “submit” as the application date, and the clock starts ticking.

We are hopeful (although not entirely optimistic) licensing authorities will comply with their statutory obligations.

If you apply via this portal and receive any feedback from the licensing authority that is contrary to what is allowed by statute, please contact us.

We expect this to be a marathon, not a sprint, however, if the Commonwealth requires lawful firearms owners, and those who wish to be lawful firearms owners to follow the law, the least we can expect is that the licensing authorities for the Commonwealth will also follow the law.

We will be standing by to hold them accountable, as we have been in our case against Boston White v Cox
